In 2008, I was a first time pilgrim going on a spiritual journey in honor of Christ the King. It was just after World Youth Day and people were fascinated by the idea of "pilgrimage".

So for online documentary, a media arts and production elective at UTS, I made this online documentary focussing on meeting pilgrims who come and come regularly in an attempt to discover what motivates people to make it all the way.

Australian Camino - a documentary by Bridget Spinks (2008) is a modern look into an ancient tradition.

In this half-hour documentary divided into 10 bite-size movie clips, you'll find out about how the pilgrimage came about and how much it has changed since the first pilgrims walked in 1991.

Come on the journey with me from Sydney via Melbourne to Ballarat to Bendigo. This is the latest version with pause/play button rollover. So sit back and enjoy the experience. The feature question is - how does the pilgrimage impact upon your experience with God?

Post Scriptum

I was thrilled earlier this year when Australian Camino was Runner Up for Best Online Journalism in the UTS Journalism Awards 2009.
