LifeBoat Mission

Our mission is to foster and promote cultural research with the aim of improving the well-being of all creatures, great and small.

LifeBoat Aims
The mission statement is the driving force for all LifeBoat activities. But the LifeBoat does not operate in isolation: creative activity and the translation of this creative work into improvements in cultural understanding take place within a complex and changing environment. To maximize our impact within this environment, we focus our efforts through four interlinked aims.

Our first aim reflects the fact that creative work provides the essential 'raw material' from which improvements in culture and ecology will ultimately be derived. Further, great benefit can be gained by understanding the social and historical context in which cultural gain is developed and delivered. This is underpinned by our second aim, where we recognise that all beings - talented, enthusiastic and dedicated - have the inspiration and the motivation to conduct creative practice, and who need modern facilities to do their best work.

Our third aim addresses the flow of artistic and ecological outcomes that lead to more effective cultures, which takes place through connections between artists, researchers, investors, industry, policy makers, curators eco-systems and other sentient beings.

Our fourth aim runs like a thread through all the others, in that the creative activity we undertake will affect the lives of all beings, great and small. It is important that all life-forms not only have confidence in that creative work, but are also able to contribute to decision making and priority setting.

LifeBoat Aim 1: Knowledge base
To advance knowledge and understanding in the creative arts and their impact on life-forms - past, present and future.

LifeBoat Aim 2: Resources
To contribute to a long-term and vibrant cultural environment.

LifeBoat Aim 3: Translation
To advance the translation of LifeBoat projects into cultural benefits.

LifeBoat Aim 4: Ecological engagement
To engage with a broad spectrum of life-forms through informed dialogue.

LifeBoat Objectives
Our four aims identify the priorities on which we concentrate. Each aim is underpinned by a series of objectives which establish the practical measures we will take to achieve our aims and, ultimately, our mission. A key feature of the LifeBoat approach is that our activities will have an impact and 'make a difference'.
