“Evolutionism is a world-view, which seeks to explain every aspect of this world in which we live*… from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and wonderful have been, and are being, evolved.”**
Evolutionism: for your ears explores the fragments of sound technology through the incorporation of audio narratives from different people sharing their personal views and experiences towards the installation of the sculpture made from audio-related devices and materials.
When you listen to audio material, whether it is tuning into your radio or playing your favourite song, imagination is essential in constructing an experience. Your mind fills in the gaps, the more that is left up to the imagination the more subjective an audio experience will be. Pre-loved audio equipment often comes with a story behind it. The found objects that make up the sculpture act as a gateway to uncover personal experiences and fragments of sound technology.
We want you to engage your imagination as we explore the fragments of the evolution of sound technology and what it means to be a listener today. We bring you the concept of remix and mashing up audio content as well as the documentation of the physical creation of the sculpture that engages with ‘evolution’ itself.

(Note to wider public - these comments should be taken in the context of this being a university class exercise! These RMIT projects are very sophisticated, and we welcome much simpler and entirely amateur contributions to Gene Pool too!).
Hi team (Danica, Hanna and Meg)
Really love this project's core idea - the evolution of a medium as technology evolves (my favourite media at that, audio and radio!).
Great quality interview recordings for all your audio segments, and nicely mixed vox pops/interviews/mashup...well done on the technical front. The narration in the mashup was clear, but stuck out a bit sharply in the mix...worth focusing on your presentation a bit, and embedding it more in the production perhaps.
Really enjoyed the range of interviews you got, and the mashup offers a great convergence of all the elements too.
The scuplture is the unexpected - digital meets material - surprise. Really interesting addition in the context of a media production course...
Is it just my browser or do the buttons for the slide show documentation of the sculpture drop off the bottom of the screen? ie. http://raws.adc.rmit.edu.au/~s3120679/evolutionism/index.html
Thought the website could do with a bit of design tweak perhaps...it's all a bit squashed on the page, and you could have played with the screen real estate a bit more perhaps in your design?
Loved reading some of your personal blog reflections on the process and project also, thanks for linking to those as context for your project...
thanks again for adding to the Gene Pool. And good luck with your next projects.Feel free to add your thoughts here too.

Hi - I love the evolution of a sculpture piece. The concept works really nicely and they are all great objects in themselves. Perhpas more of the sound from the old records, cassettes, i pod etc could have been incorporated into the background sound of the piece? Anyway well done.
