A bit about me…

Leah Barclay has been recognised as one of the most promising Australian composers of her generation. She has been the recipient of numerous awards, grants and scholarships and her work has been commissioned, performed and published across Australia, Canada, Europe and India. Her current work explores new sonic languages fusing the spontaneity of live performance with the infinite possibilities of technology. Reviews such as “innovation with veracity”, “dynamic originality” and “firing curiosity” have often been associated with her performances.

In addition to her work as a composer, Leah is a skilled producer, curator, digital media artist, educator and emerging musicologist with a dynamic versatility that has taken her across the globe. Her increasingly hectic agenda includes a strong commitment to community cultural development, with projects ranging from curating and directing hybrid international events to producing radio features aimed at exposing emerging artists. She has initiated numerous business ventures to coincide with her creative practice and serves on a variety of committees for national arts organisations while continuing to shape a dynamic freelance career.

In October 2008 Leah was awarded the inaugural Premier of Queensland's National New
Media Art Scholarship. The prestigious biennial award stands as Australia's most significant prize for new media art and will allow Leah to tour internationally in 2009 performing and exhibiting at festivals in Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, USA, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Spain and China.
