Text: Talking to ourselves?
Folks, maybe anonymity is what we want, I dunno.
But consider this:
I phoned the ABC newsroom in Brisbane. The receptionist had never heard of Pool. I spoke to two journalists in the newsroom. They had also never heard of it. The receptionist and one of the journos, called Murray, appropriately, perhaps his job is to keep track of what isn't there in other dry fields, asked if I was talking about a swimming pool. The other journo, called Kim, tried hard but could not get the Haiti Group website to open. OK, journos are busy folk, and they hate to know what is going on, all very understandable. But the receptionist?
Next day, Murray had found it,. Oh, he said, we found it, it's something to do with Radio National. Not us.
Then the ABC websites. They also think it is a swimming pool. Perhaps they are right. There have been so many drownings lately. Perhaps it is a new drowning pool, for the last vestiges of Australia art and literature. (not to forget bad poetry, of course - a quick commercial there)
This is a game you can play. Never mind Lucinda. Go to the ABC websites. Not Pool's one. Try finding Pool there. It is much harder than finding dear Lucy.
As there are no hit counters on Pool, guess what?
There are maybe a dozen of us, mumbling to ourselves. A bit like the old folk on the Brighton Pier. What fun. A secret society, all of our own.
Shhhh!

HI all great read ... and so much in it all what is shared here .......... does it really matter if this pool is a place for simply swimming thru each other from time to time ? :) nO ! :) All is good ..
Peter ..........is it the voice inside u that is mumbling the words of judgement ? ...... :) Maybe it is .... coz it remeinds me of the little voice in me that does that that when I am not right here present ......... I do best I can each day to recognise the little voice of self that speaks on a rebound of the meaning the voice puts to any given thing said ... What people do is there learning I suppose ... this is a reply to comment made by the voice of after thought with meaning put to it ...wow ... life is grand .... I wonder if this is just the little voice in ME hving a say with my OWN meaning I have bounced with in regard to UR voice that had bounced via the meaning he put to this thread ... Are'nt we all full of wonder at how we all commute on tis planet :) ... LOVE Robby ............ Ducking! ( that was def the litle voice ) hehehehehe :)))

Hello, Peter... Yes, I agree, Pool is hardly Topic Number One on the ABC generally. However, give it time. I think it will come good... I hope so. (HOPE 2010).
I have undertaken to manage a Group on ageing (Do not go gentle) but have had little response as yet, and admit to some ducking it on my own part: exacerbated by a computer breakdown for some couple of weeks, and I now discover that in that process I have lost my stored emails (and addresses)... general panic...
Peter, I think you have put a comment on 'my' Group, thank you, and I think I have put one on yours, if not have meant to - I like your writing and your somewhat sceptical attitude. (Pool should have an active Writing Group...)
As to 'Do not go gentle': There are so many issues to be discussed, of real concern to oldies (like me), that go way beyond reminiscing, and bingo, and desperate travel: including euthanasia, now euphemised, I see, as 'dying with dignity'; including housing (How about freehold resident- established communities, instead of run-for-profit leasehold retirement villages that make their biggest profit when the residents die or otherwise move on), to name just two relevant issues...
I will be back, but first I have to try to regain my lost emails, and email addresses, only victims so far revealed of my recent computer chaos...
Keep in touch. Betty Birskys.

Hey Peter!
ABC Online is a bit of a behemoth isn't it? There is actually a Pool section on the Radio National homepage, which features things from Pool. Check it out here http://abc.net.au/rn/. It's to the left, down the bottom. You can find mentions of us hidden all over the rest of Radio National online too!

Hey Peter,
It never ceases to amaze me how spineless contributors are who can't have the decency to put their name to their produce. The lack of spine is only surpassed by the lack of enthusiasm to use this wonderful tool to its potential.
