I saw the body bobbing in the water, her head lolling to one side, the light on her jacket flashing, on, off, on, off, just to let me know she was still there.
I could have tried, should have tried a little harder to save her, but when she slipped it was I, not her, that saw my life flashing before my eyes. The things I could do, the places I could go… without her.
I had planned this trip, the trip to end all trips, and now as she slips under the waves, taking her forever out to sea, her orange day-glow jacket dimming with the fading light, my own light gets stronger, brighter.
Yes it was all in the grand plan, His or mine, they will never know.
