Text: They Lost Souls

Text

He swim like whale
Playing 1 fin up till sun go down
She different
Leaping from man to man all night long
Like frog leaping from lily pad to lily pad
All men and women different
Some don’t live to see what
They become
Forget who they are
Forget they totem
Forget to honour they spirit within
Forget the law that binds em
And the spirit of they ancestors

Our children
They come out of they mothers
Wild spirits and all
Closer to they totem
Closer to they dreamin
But then they lose they way
Signs all round but no one seein
No one to carry they story
             to teach em the law
to show them where they come from
So many forgotten
Lost souls
No one to show them they way

Elders we see where this darkness come from
White men - first he hurt our people
Take our land
Change our ways
Teach our people about Jesus and Noah
White man dreamin
Now no more understandin of the law
Greedy hearts hurtin
Our own people gone astray
Lost they way
Bringin grog and yandi to they children and grandchildren
Throwin they cares away
Every one get hurt
Even they elders
We watch they lost souls
And we cry
No reason for they to help themselves
No reason for they to go back to the land
The law forgotten

Ceremonies gone away
Most people don’t know what they missin
When they realize – it’s too late
And they dyin

Now some of us
We ask what going to happen
No one to pass on the law after we gone
Nearly all forgotten
Only the land speakin but no one listenin

Our ancestors - we see em
They not happy
So sad – sometimes cryin
They show us they way things will be
If no totems remembered the law will be forgotten
They say we must teach some white men
Some with black hearts
They will come lookin
Even now they learnin they selves
They tell us ancestors from far far away
We must find them and teach em
Show em they way teach em the law
Cause one day they must remember for us
Must be carriers of the law
Help our people come back to they place
                          come back to they dreaming
Remember who they are
They some elders who do not want to trust the white man
Some who say we must be patient with our people
But I say we must listen to our ancestors
They show us the way

See this as part of our dreaming
A new dreaming way
The white man who cares for us
Will find a way
Maybe he our brothers
Before we born he choose the white man way
But no matter I listen to what I see
My people dyin
My ancestors cryin
And our ancestors showin us a way to survive
We must listen to the song lines to find our way home
Our healing for they brothers and sisters
Healin for our people.
