2010 calendars can be found in every suburban Post Office at this time of year, with photos of indigenous mammals and birds, domestic cats and dogs. They're cute.

And by the door of our local shopping mall there are display racks of them, and others as well, which show vast or shrunken landscapes of rolling hills, gum trees, beaches, a corner of a rain forest, a waterfall, or a striking picture of a Waratah.

But the predictability of the cuteness and the scenic beauty is beginning to wear on me.

Walking around the shopping mall, I feel like a bit player in The Truman Show, and I wish the bubble would burst so there could be a flood of other images.
