On November the 14th, the dead rose in Sydney city in support for
the creation of a R18+ rating for videogames in Australia, and to fight
against game censorship. Rather than protecting children, Australia's
current rating system causes more games to be classified as MA15+, and
actually allows them to access more mature content more easily.
In a recent government meeting to consider the establishment of an
R18 classification, almost all attending members voted yes. Only one
person - the South Australian attorney general - continues to oppose
this. Because it was not a unanimous decision, the proposal was
rejected. Australia is the ONLY country not to have adopted this rating
system.
