Image: Arriving in Charters Towers
We arrived in Charters Towers Tuesday afternoon to the clanging bell of the Town Crier. The steam engine broke down in Townsville so the train was pulled by the Diesel enginge instead. The local mayor, with a self professed love of steam, delivered his speach - complete with steam train references and analogies - anyway. The steam engine chuffed its way to meet the train in Charters Towers that evening.
