Forum post: The War on Creativity

John Jacobs's picture

The War on Creativity asks young artists to respond to the effects of gentrification in their cities and neighbourhoods. The irony of gentrification is that cuts out the artists who helped drive the rise in popularity of a suburb, when rent hikes make the area unaffordable. The competition asks for films 3m or elss which address the themes and offer solutions, helping artists to get credit for what they created. First prize is $3000, with runner up prizes from Crumpler and Readings.

The big city has a strong aggregating effect, and is growing at the expense of all ,
incl regional areas, in stagnation & decline. Is it a war on creativity or just a loss of culture generally. There are unused buildings in small towns in central west nsw that could benefit from attention from artists looking for cheap space.
I am not a film maker but I can show you a few vacant buildings.
