Share your stories of living local

Blog: Share your stories of living local

What would happen if we all attempted to live local? Imagine ... empty highways, busy parks and people on the street talking to their neighbours.

Local libraries, community centres and community choirs might see a renaissance, and people might share more with each other - their ladders, gardening tips, or maybe even their internet bandwidth.

Easier said than done of course, but what if we, each in different ways, tried to live lives that were more local?

What does living local even mean? To Anna Burns, who for a month lived within 2 kilometres of her inner city home, it is “as much about awareness and a state of mind as about defined actions. Because sometimes it's just not feasible to only live, work and eat within a specified radius of your house. But you can find other ways to live locally.”

Anna identifies other ways to live locally as choosing to shop at the family run grocer, rather than a supermarket, or starting up a community garden. It’s smiling at someone as you walk down the street - it's about what each of us can do to make a change.

Tell us your stories of how you live local. We want to hear your experiences, your journeys, and your experiments. We want you to inspire us! So get sharing and caring on Pool. Let your imagination take you away with how you submit your stories. Try taking a video of your bike ride to work, or paint a picture of your community garden. The world is your (locally sourced) oyster.
