Crash goes the remix

Blog: Crash goes the remix

Have you ever hated your computer? And wondered how to turn that frustration into inspiration? Producer of the Mercury Prize winning artist Speech Debelle, and Pool contributor, Lotek, shows the way with his great Ctl Alt Delete music video. He's also shared elements of it with all of us for remixing.

Computers are right at the centre of so many of our positive dreams of creativity and connection so when they fail to deliver they sure can get us fuming! Pent up frustrations are often the artist's inspiration for interesting critical and amusing creations. So we thought we'd look around for a bunch of examples to inspire your remixing imaginations.

Bweeep! Its no surprise that there's lots of remixes using the standard system and error sounds. This is one of our favourite examples by Buttress O'Kneel Breaking Windows.

Microsoft's annoyingly helpful talking system assistant Sam stars in many remixes like this one - Can't do that.

Once we started searching for "error and remix" we soon discovered the "Crazy Error" meme. This has hundreds of remixes most of which are fully caffeinated popcore like this infectious Japanese example. Don't worry Mac's cop it too! We even found online animated games that let you virtually destroy the ubiquitous beige box. Love those bare-knuckle glass crushing manoeuvres!

As the rabbit hole got deeper we started treading in sorts of YouTube poop. Billy Mays Dub anyone...? Errrm time to shut down the browser and fire up the audio video mash ware.

For a bit more background on Lotek listen to a radio interview  where he speaks to a past Pool intern Dan Mchugh on 2SERFM.

If you come up with any Ctl Alt Del remixes be sure to add them to Lotek's Pool group.

We are also on the look out for any other notable computer love/hate themed remixes. If you find one you might want to share it as a comment on this blog post. Log in to Pool to comment.
