Blog: Spirit shift
On the surface a flower, but what’s deeper in a Pool reflection? Radio National’s Kerry Stewart had a Spirit Shift at the Taj Mahal, and she’s just started up a new project here at Pool.
Hi, I’m Kerry and I make feature programs for ABC Radio National’s Religion Unit. That’s me smelling the flower.
The Taj Mahal’s dazzling white marble, although breath-takingly beautiful, wasn’t the thing that shifted my spirit. This ancient building is surrounded by magnificent gardens and in one of the ponds was a pearl pink lotus flower. I stretched out across the water and as my face was immersed in the huge fragrant bloom the momentary nature of existence was revealed and my spirit shifted. Since then I've followed a Buddhist path.
Has anything like this ever happened to you? An unexpected meeting of your spirit with a place, person, or situation? Share your Spirit Shift story by adding it to Pool. Together our stories may be able to become a radio program for Encounter.
My example is Hindu Pilgrimage , an interview I did with Surinder Jain. His Spirit Shift came when he found a cave in West Australia that was home to some ancient Hindu gods and goddesses!
