Sometimes, when I am travelling back home from university on the train late at night (and, as the day is over, I feel no longer obliged to think about anything study-related) I look outside the train windows at the industrial areas around Sydenham and Wolli Creek. Graffiti, everywhere. A couple of rusty old train carriages, enormous warehouses with strange, angular roofs. Often unlit, just black shapes and shadows against the sky.

I'm certainly not the first person to have been enthralled by such bleak, industrial landscapes. For some reason, many people over the decades have attempted to harness the beauty they see in such places, and translate it into photography, or film, or music. I'm sure the reason for our captivation could be rationalised via some complex academic argument, and a few references to the typical European literature, but I can't be bothered doing that. And, increasingly these days, I can't really see the point anyway.

So, I instead try to interpret the industrial landscape, and my fascination with it, as sound =)
