When presented with some sort of sample sequencer, it's tempting to want to create phat drum-like rhythms using all manner of nifty samples and crazy effects. However, real-time digital signal processing (DSP) allows you to create rhythms using other methods, like synthesis, modulation, feedback, gating... All sorts of crazy stuff. In this, a simple noise/sine generator creates a maraca/clave sound, and bassline generators act as both bassline and a gate for other synthesized sounds. Throw in a delay or two, and you can craft some pretty complex rhythms :D
