Audio: Jarman's Garden excerpt 1

In the bleak expanse of shingle that faces the nuclear power station in Dungeness, Kent, artist and filmmaker Derek Jarman made his final home. Throughout a long illness at the end of his life Jarman put an extraordinary amount of passion and physical labor into his uniqe and rugged garden. Sherre DeLys visited Prospect Cottage in Dungeness, then made this impressionistic rendering of a garden haunted by paradise.
