Audio: ONE BIG LAN PARTY by Shamir Muhammad and Stephanie Powell
Synopsis
The world of video gaming is an obsession for some and beyond comprehension for others. ONE BIG LAN PARTY is about socially isolated gamers wanting to reconnect with each other in the real world. The desire to re-establish relationships with each other challenges the socially isolating impact of online gaming. Online games are a means of escapism and fantasy.
Gamers like World of Warcraft (WOW) allow gamers to embody another character and to take on different roles. LAN parties are where groups of gamers get together to play video games side by side. We visit the organisers of ‘Couch Warriors’, a new breed of LAN party goers, and talk to a gamer who has experienced both the highs and lows of online gaming.

Hi Shamir & Stephanie,
I really enjoyed ONE BIG LAN PARTY. I'm not a gamer but I'm fascinated by a lot of the ideas around gaming culture! For me, you really captured the addictive nature that people often associate with gaming. I really got a sense of actually being in the room with the people playing the games. I thought you used the sound really well and had a good range of voices. I also thought it was really interesting that the gamers you spoke to were wanting to 're-connect with each other in the real world'.
Andrew for the Pool team.
