About fifteen minutes walk from the car choked heart of Sydney you arrive at a small tree-filled refuge in over-populated Surry Hills. It’s called Nichols Lane. All around is heavy traffic, but here, peace... at least for the moment... because developers are circling. In the 1970s and ‘80s various Sydney City Councils made a lot of money by selling off the city’s laneways, including this one. Today the Council has a policy suggesting it would like to protect the laneways that remain - but the legislation isn’t always there to support it.
