Program Title:
One Big LAN Party
Synopsis:
The world of video gaming is an obsession for some and beyond comprehension for others. Tonight’s program is about socially isolated gamers wanting to reconnect with each other in the real world. The desire to re-establish relationships with each other challenges the socially isolating impact of online gaming. Online games are a means of escapism and fantasy.
Gamers like World of Warcraft (WOW) allow gamers to embody another character and to take on different roles. LAN parties are where groups of gamers get together to play video games side by side. We visit the organisers of ‘Couch Warriors’, a new breed of LAN party goers, and talk to a gamer who has experienced both the highs and lows of online gaming.

It was great to be taken right inside this geeky world, RAID instances, toilet calls, tribes of ogres, its all there! I like that its kind of like a support group. The sense of irony is nice. I really wish that the game sounds and music as well as the LAN party actuality had been allowed to come right to the foreground a bit more. Be audacious get that mike in near mouths! I did think the piece could have been cut back to increase the pace. The time line structure was quite effective though. Well done. Cheers John
